Canadian Cancer Society Vitamin D
Recommendation
Growing
Body of Evidence Linking Vitamin D to Reduced Risk of Colorectal,
Breast and Prostate Cancers
On June 8, 2007, the Canadian Cancer Society issued a recommendation
that:
· Adults
living in Canada take 1,000 IU a day during the fall and winter
· “High
Risk” adults should take 1,000 IU a day year round
High risk was defined as people:
· Who
are older
· With
dark skin
· Who
don’t go outside frequently
· Who
wear clothing that covers most of their skin
It should be noted that the
Society recommended that
anyone considering taking Vitamin D at these levels do so in
consultation with a trained health care professional.
